There are certain phrases from the mouth of Jesus to which we say, “I wish Jesus hadn’t said that!” We may even wonder, “What was Jesus thinking!?” We will look at four such statements of Jesus for their meaning and application to our lives. Today’s is “deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow me…” This is not a natural reaction for us. Denying ourselves seems to fly in the face of our natural instinct to self-preserve. Denying self is a learned response. We will look at steps we can take to make denying self a more natural response and why it is so important that we do.
